On December 30,  2015 Ural Locomotives Railway Manufacturing Plant (located in Verkhnyaya Pyshma in Sverdlovsk Oblast) received the Russian Railway Equipment Registry’s Type-Approval Certificate confirming that Class ES2G ‘Lastochka’ EMU is ready for operation.

The Certificate allows Ural Locomotives to start delivering the EMUs to Russian Railways. Under the contract for the supply of 1,200 cars of Lastochka Electric Multiple Unit through 2020 – signed in 2011 between Russian Railways, Sinara Group and Siemens AG – the first trains will be delivered to the customer in March 2015.

So far, the UL-manufactured Lastochka is the first Russian-built EMU equipped with asynchronous traction motors to receive the certificate. Lastochka is the new-generation lightweight electric multiple unit train capable of reaching the speed of up to 160 km/h and complying with all the applicable modern-day regulatory requirements regarding passenger safety and comfort. The EMU boasts high efficiency in passenger capacity and was designed for both intercity and commuter rail applications.

It will be recalled that the Certificate confirming Class ES2G EMU testing results being in compliance with the established design assignment was signed on December 15, 2014 at the meeting of a multi-authority committee chaired by RZD Vice President Mr. Valentin Gapanovich.
