Scope of Application

The DC double-section electric freight locomotive 2ES10 GRANITE  with asynchronous traction drive is designed to haul freight trains on 1520 track gauge rail lines electrified at 3 kV DC. The DC double-section electric freight locomotive 2ES10 can haul trains with 9,000 tons on gradients up to 6 0/00 and trains with 6,300 tons on gradients up to 10 0/00.

To increase the haulage capacity of freight locomotives 2ES10 a Booster unit has been developed, which enables handling of heavier trains on very steep gradients.

The design provides the possibility to couple locomotives for multiple-unit operation, as well as to use one section of the locomotive in a stand-alone mode.

Advantages of Class 2ES10 Locomotive

  • High tractive effort and increased maintenance intervals are achieved by implementation of Siemens asynchronous traction motors with axle control based on IGBT traction converters.
  • The enhanced On-Board Diagnostics System is installed for data transmission via radio communication channels to servers located at Operation Control Centers and Maintenance Depots.
  • The automatic train operation system in combination with the GPS/ GLONASS system enables to receive the exact coordinates of the locomotive continuously.
  • The new modular type driver cabin has improved ergonomic and hygienic characteristics-Specific energy consumption for train traction is reduced by 8-10 % compared to electric locomotives with commutator-type drive unit due to the use of new engineering solutions and power-saving lighting technologies.
